Good Friday
and Kids
The Good Friday service for children will take place in Luther Hall, at the same time the adult service is taking place in the sanctuary.  This will be on Friday, April 10th at 7:00 p.m.

We want to share with you our plans for this service and encourage you to talk with your children about what to expect ahead of time.  We plan to "do" Holy Week and help kids really "get" what it's all about so that when they come to church on Easter, they will have that much more appreciation for such a great celebration of worship and transformation of the sanctuary into a festive space.

As our Good Friday service for children begins, we will enter Luther Hall as if it were Palm Sunday: laying our coats on the floor, waving palm branches and singing, "Hosanna!"  From there, we will transition to the Last Supper.  We will be washing each other's feet - stinky, ticklish, or not.  Washing feet and having your feet washed is a very humbling experience - a good one you may wish to try at home.  We will break bread and drink grape juice.  From there we will place ourselves in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed with this disciples before his betrayal.  We will talk through the trial, touch a crown of thorns, carry a large heavy cross.  Drape it with black, turn the lights out - hear thunder, and see a strobe to mark the time of Jesus' death.  We will all know what and when it is to happen, but we will all be a little in awe together.

Children will have the opportunity to drape their own cross with black to take home with them in silence.  On Easter morning, along with searching for eggs, they can unveil their cross and really rejoice that Christ is Risen!

Parents, you are welcome to stay at this service and participate with your child(ren), and you are also welcome to leave them with us, and enjoy the service in the sanctuary.  Either way, we hope you and your familiy will come.  Let us worship and grow in faith together.
